Have you ever "put off" eating breakfast only because you are so hungry, but get so little food, that it's almost not worth it? Or you're afraid you'll eat such a big chunk of your calories or points that you won't have enough for the rest of the day?
I love cereal...healthy cereal, but it's still a grain, and always a sweet grain at that. But a serving of cereal, almost all of them, is microscopic. So if you have a decent portion, add healthy berries, and skim milk, you've almost shot your day.
All the nutritionists advocate eating a big breakfast, smaller lunch, and much smaller dinner. Hard to do, because if you're hungry from, say, hiking your fat ass up and down some hills, after shoveling a barn-full of horse manure, by the time you get to the evening, you'd eat anything, and a lot of it. Of course, those nutritionists sit in the office all day, with maybe a little excursion to the gym for a self-absorbed "workout" in trendy "workout attire,"......throwing a cute trendy sweater or matching jacket on to go"from the gym to errands." How cute.
Oops, but I digress. Have to go eat breakfast. What to have, what to have...........stressful.
This is my self-centered rambling about weight, exercise, healthy living, life on the farm, travels with horses....oh, who am I kidding...it's my never-an-unexpressed-thought-or-opinion about my life. And maybe your life, like it or not.

I am sooooo tired. The past 3 or so days I've hiked my fat butt up and down hills here on the farm. It's going well. "Well" meaning I'm doing it and haven't been carted off to the emergency room. The dogs are pooped, too. They hike about twice as many miles as I do, exploring smells and looking in vain for a skunk to rustle up.
On the way back up the hill to the house, I kept checking behind me, looking for some fat to be leaking out onto the ground, like a car leaking oil on the street, but.......nope. Then I came in and had a banana with some peanut butter on it......oops. HaHa!
Still....... criminy, all that sweating and working ought to have used up SOME calories.

Bleh!
This is soooooooo bad. I received my Medifast giant box of dreck last nite. Got up this a.m., called the company for a return authorization (surprisingly easy), boxed it up, and am on my way to mail it BACK. haha Just couldn't face it.
I'll try Lean Cuisine instead.
And keep picturing my poor little darling horse hauling my fat ass over those Colorado mountains!

Catching up with my mileage
To just jump in:
I was at 1317 miles to Moab. That's subtracting the roughly 100 miles I rode or hiked this summer.
Two days ago I did (supposedly) 2 miles on the elliptical, 2 more this a.m., and I've just returned from hiking here on the farm for 2 miles. Those are UP and DOWN miles; they ought to count double, but I'll not push it.
So I'm at 1311 miles to Moab. Sheesh. I'll be rolling there in a wheel chair if I don't get busy. We (husband and I) are going to AZ again this Feb to hike, so that will help.
It's been 55 degrees here today. Not bad, esp when you consider it was about 12 a couple of days ago. 55 is definitely doable.
My husband received his box of Medifast yesterday, so took that with him to work today. I sent some blueberries, low cal cheese stick, and Greek yogurt with him, also. I just don't think it's enough calories for a working, thinking guy for the day. Tonite: tilapia and sauted cabbage. Ugh.

Yahoo...........now we're cookin' (oops, poor choice of words...)
Ok, new year, new delusions about getting in shape and losing weight! I've decided to do something drastic....try a month of Medifast. Very low calorie (never a good idea) and high in protein (did I mention I'm almost a vegetarian?)..........so this should go well, right?
I've ordered it; "it" being a month's worth of (I just can't call it food) therapy (ha, that sounds better). But since it's not here yet, I'm going to have to try to do my own thing and hold the line until it gets here.
One important thing I need to do: stay out of the kitchen. For some reason, hanging out in the kitchen is what I do. It seems to me that I must think that doing almost anything in the family room labels me as LAZY. (Actually, hanging out in the kitchen is currently contributing to my label: FAT). It's so dang easy to either search for food in the cabinet or frig, or whip up something. And the "something" I whip up always involves sugar. So now I'm making an effort to stay out of the kitchen.
Did 2 ten minute sessions on the elliptical today, and expect to do more. The monitor said "2 miles," but I don't believe it. I use time as my measurment on the elliptical. It's too cold to hike or walk outside...12 degrees this a.m. A bit of snow on the ground, but the sun is out and the gale force winds we had over the w/e have stopped.
So...we're off. I'll figure up how many more miles to Moab and post it next time.

Well?
Ok, I'm still thinking about maybe re-starting the jogging thing. I may have to think about this until after Thanksgiving. Wouldn't want to rush into anything. There are possible complications to consider: my thighs starting a fire, my butt flopping up and down and gaining momentum until it hits me in the back of the head (& I can't take any more head injuries), the repetitive pounding on the pavement making me shorter by wearing off my feet............you just can't rush into these things without examining the risks.
Besides, it's been raining for 2 days and today was so foggy all day that I couldn't see 50 yards in front of me. Creepy.
On a lighter note, think I'll make a black walnut pie for Thanksgiving. It would be the same as a pecan pie, just substituting black walnuts. Adventures in cooking!

Sheesh! It's been a looong time.
Ok, I think I'm ready to get back to my rants/chronicles/self-help posting. This will really surprise you, but I'm still fat. Don't think I'm much fatter than in April, when I last posted, but still.....
Since I posted I've added a lot of miles, walking and riding, but didn't keep track of them. Let's just say ....oh, how about 100. Sound good?
I hiked in Yosemite, Sequoia, none in King's Canyon, and a bit in Bishop, CA on our trip to CA in May. Mule Days in Bishop was a hoot. I liked seeing Yosemite but once is plenty.....way too many people.
Went trail riding in IN, PA, TN, MO, and MI. {And don't for one single minute think that I take all these travels for granted. I count my many blessing each and every day.}
Oh, oh, oh, and participated in Coach Strong's (U of Louisville football coach) Women's Football Camp. It was 90+ degrees at the stadium. We did indoor things, listened to presentations, demos, and player panels until lunch, then went to the field and the indoor practice facility (the hot box, aptly named) and the weight room (torture. Coach Kenny Carter asked me why I was laughing and not doing my pushups...I said that I don't speak Englich and tried to look confused...he yelled, "You don't have to speak English to do pushups. Get going!) All in fun. VERY tiring day. I'm too old and fat. But it was great fun.
So, I'm sorta getting the urge to start jogging again. Yeah, and without something chasing me. Now, I haven't started yet, but am thinking about it. That's the first step, right? (no pun intended).
I'll think on it some more. Wouldn't want to rush into anything.
